Tag clouds: A tag cloud or word cloud is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, or simply the word content of a site, used typically to describe the content of web sites. Tags are usually single words and are typically listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color. Finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible.

Technorati (great example of tag clouds): Technorati collects, organizes, and distributes the global online conversation

iGoogle: your personalized Google page. Add news, photos, weather, and stuff from across the web to your page. You can have multiple tabs!

Twitter: is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, often called "tweets" of 140 characters or fewer. These messages are posted to your profile or your blog, sent to your followers, and are searchable on Twitter search.
• Twitter broked the news of the Hudron River plane crash: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/scienceandtechnology/technology/twitter/4269765/New-York-plane-crash-Twitter-breaks-the-news-again.html
• Some celebrity tweeters:

Mashups: In web development, a mashup is a Web application that combines data from one or more sources into a single integrated tool.
• http://www.celebritytweet.com/ - all the tweets from celebrities in one place
• http://www.ifeeltoronto.com/ - Search what people in the t-dot do around the city when in moods ranging from energetic to romantic to broke.

Cool ways to use new media at work:
• Alexa.com: track your website against your competition
• Technorati.com: check out who is talking about your product
• Google Trends: lets you see who is interested in any given topic, on a local or worldwide basis. You can enter up to five topics and see how often they’ve been searched on Google over time.
• Google Alerts: sign up to be alerted if your company/product is mentioned in online conversation

And for all you marketers out there: the new Social Media PR release!
